"Hi everyone! I'm Sally, the beautiful but emaciated
greyhound you see in the logo for this website, and
I need your help!"
On Saturday 30th May 2009 I was found wandering the streets by Lynda. I weighed just 19kgs and had the most horrendous teeth Roy has ever seen (and that's saying something). They were that decayed, rotten and filthy that the only thing I'd been able to eat was grass and my breath smelt like silage. I was whipped up to the vets straight away and the decision was made that, despite my poor condition and advanced years, that my brave little heart was strong enough to undergo surgery and, if I stood any chance of survival, that all my teeth had to be removed that afternoon.
I was back at Gosling Moor the next day and I've since mastered how to keep my tongue in my mouth (very hard with no teeth, but I'm a fast learner) and don't you dare call me Gummy!
I do have tattoos (very hard to read ones) and with a lot investigation it's now known who I am. I was born in 1998 and last officially raced way back in 2000. Since then the trail has gone cold.
Gosling Moor Farm is the first real place of safety and love that I've known and after all those years of neglect don't I deserve a chance? I potter round the Farm with my mate Nosey, love a cuddle and I'm slowly putting on weight and recovering.
I will cost Sheffield Retired Greyhounds a lot of money and although everyone assures me that I'm worth it and will always have a secure, loving home here I would like your help. I can only manage to eat certain foods with no teeth and kind people have been buying me fresh cooked chicken (yum!). If you'd like to donate anything (or why not sponsor me?) I'd feel like I'm making a contribution to my upkeep.
THANK YOU for taking the time to read my story and I'd love to meet you if you get the time to visit the Farm.
Love Sally XXX
We would be very grateful for donations of tinned oily fish which the hounds love and will eat even when they are off their food.
We are always looking for voluntary walkers to help out any morning from 9 o'clock until around 11.30.
Would anyone like to help us in our fund-raising efforts? We are always looking for people and new ideas.
If anyone could provide bags of proper sawdust bought from a suppliers such as Argo it would help us a lot. We use a lot of sawdust and along with shredded paper (which we have generous donations of) it is one of our biggest expenses.
We are currently looking for anyone that could spare just a couple of hours a month, on a Tuesday, Friday or Saturday evening (early evening) helping us with Beat the Book at Sheffield Sports Stadium.
Beat the Book is an essential fundraiser for us and every penny raised goes towards the upkeep of our wonderful greyhounds. It’s only a couple of hours, we usually have a good laugh doing it and, of course, your own greyhounds can come and join in the fun too.
If you feel you can help at all please ring us on 0114 2888 300, send an e-mail or come and visit us.
Our email address is ngrc@btconnect.com. A contact form can be found on our main site.
If we've never met, easy instructions on how to find us are on the 'more info' link to your left. All details can also be found on our main site: http://www.sheffieldretiredgreyhounds.co.uk/contact_us.php
